Before entering the Festival ground, please read through our Code of Conduct carefully!

We want Diskurs Festival to be a space where everyone feels welcome and safe. This Code of Conduct applies to all people present at the festival: visitors, artists, staff, and organizers.

  • Speak about the performances and theoretical inputs that you have seen in a constructive manner. The performers and theorists at the festival come from different structures and backgrounds. Please refrain from interrupting the performances and theoretical inputs, as there are specific formats created for constructive criticism within the program of the festival (e.g. after talks).

  • We strongly condemn right wing, nationalist governments and groups. Therefore the festival refuses to provide a platform for any form of right wing, nationalist propaganda as presented in brands, signs, words, or behavior. We stand in solidarity with people who are being increasingly marginalized by right-wing extremist politics.

  • We strongly stand for freedom of speech and anti-censorship. Therefore we strongly defend the right of each participant of the festival to state their opinion - as long as this doesn`t contain any form of discrimination.

  • No one should be discriminated against based on their skin colour, gender, religion, heritage, disability, language or country of origin. The festival provides no platform for hatred, abelism, racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, anti-Muslim racism, misogyny, queerphobia, transphobia or any other form of discrimination. In the case of the highly debated question of distinguishing between Israel related antisemitism and legitimate political speech and action concerning Zionism, Israel and Palestine, we rely on the definitions and guidelines set forth in the Jerusalem Declaration.

  • It only means “yes” if someone says “yes”. Sometimes it can be difficult to say “no”. If you want to talk to or touch a person and are in doubt, ask whether the person agrees to the interaction. This also applies to taking a photo or video of another person.

  • Please respect the boundaries of others and your own.

  • If you need peace and quiet, there is a Calm Down Space at every location for this purpose.

  • The Awareness team is available for you by phone or in person every day from 11 am to 11 pm and can be recognised by their waistcoats. The telephone number is displayed at all venues.

  • We reserve the right to take appropriate measures in the event of violations of this code of conduct.

The Diskurs Festivals aims to create a safe space to discuss, argue, share grief, connect and teach each other strategies of resistance and resilience, healing, resting and growing stronger together. We strongly believe that we are all responsible for the atmosphere we create. Let`s make it one of care, solidarity, and mutual respect!

This Code of Conduct is a living document that is continually evolving. We recognize that we are not immune to making mistakes, but we are committed to evolving as an organization. If you believe this Code of Conduct contains inaccuracies or discrimination, please let us know at awareness@discursfestival.de .
